Lupe samples Radiohead

So, I just sat down to listen to Lupe Fiasco's new mixtape, Enemy of the State: A Love Story, and after getting through the Keri Hilson "Knock You Down" intro, I am surprised by Colin Greenwood's filthy bass riff of Radiohead's "The National Anthem". I do not approve. Radiohead's work should not be bastardized in this manner, as it has been done before. Call me a Radiohead snob (because I am), but Thom, Jonny, Colin, Phil, and Ed's work is just too magnificent to be adulterated in this way.

This is just opinion, however, so I've uploaded the concerned track for your listening so that you can come to your own conclusion.

*correction - The bass riff on "National Anthem" is played by Thom Yorke

I didn't know this. I had always just assumed that the studio version had Colin on the bass riff just as he is live. Thank you for the correction, Jason.

Swine,

You are a pretentious shit sometimes. Lupe's sample is a tribute to Radiohead. you should be honored that their music has transcended rock and entered conscious hip hop.

I am Music.

I'm with Swine here. Although it is great that musicians of other genres are showing appreciation to a great band such as radiohead, in my opinion, sampling is the laziest thing a "musician" can do. To me, it shows a lack of creativity. I feel the same way when a band puts a cover on their album. It's just lazy.

Fizzlewinks, you realise that Idioteque's entire chord sequence is a sample from Paul Lansky, right?
