With its 808s-esque blip-bloop bouncing along and a distorted guitar riff giving the track a certain edginess beneath Kanye's rhymes, this My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy cut didn't quite make it off the Hawaiian cutting room floor. Frankly, I'm not sure where the song would've fit into the retail tracklist without sounding sorely out of place. In fact, before doing a quick Google search, I thought this was a leak from Watch the Throne, as the overall feel of "Eyes Closed" was altogether un-MBDTF-like. But then again, this is likely not completely mixed and mastered as it would have appeared on a final pressing. Regardless, it's is another quality piece of Yeezian hip hop for us to sink our teeth into, so I'm not complaining. Enjoy.

It's official. I'm on CyHi Da Prynce's nuts. I'm not ashamed. Dude is the next big thing in hip hop. Not only do I have a man crush on the guy's voice, but his flow is dope as hell. If you liked what you heard on "Christian Dior Denim Flow" or "So Appaled," do yourself a favor and check out his two official mixtapes, namely Royal Flush. And you better believe that when CyHi drops his full-length, it's going to be fire. With Yeezy at the helm of GOOD Music production, you know Da Prynce's album is going to be on point. Prog Hop + Eggnog

So the acclaim for MBDTF has spiraled out of control. The amount of praise of Kanye West's latest album has become a national epidemic for which there is nor will be a vaccine (check Muzjiks in the coming days for more on that). What hasn't been mentioned enough, in my opinion, is the structural formation of some of these album tracks and tracks included in Yeezy's "Good Friday" series. I have personally never seen anything like this. These are hip-hop jazz epics. The man has collected what he has dubbed the best in his genre at the given time (or what he has access to) and allowed them to take free reign over a melodic idea. Please listen to John Coltrane's "Moment's Notice" and note the melody that begins at :39. This is the nugget that drives the piece, but John Coltrane (tenor saxophone), Chris Fuller (trombone), Lee Morgan (trumpet), Paul Chambers (D Bass), and Kenny Drew (keys) all get their hacks before the whole thing is bookended by the piece's outro.



Listen to "Monster" and "So Appalled" and tell me you don't feel the same thing. Kanye grabs a melodic idea, flushes it out, and lets his friends shit all over it. Listen to "Christian Dior Denim Flow" and the new single, "Christmas in Harlem" and dismiss them as b-sides; I dare you. Now you have no excuse, the latter two are featured below in down-loadable MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 format.

These Kanye collabos have been pretty mind blowing and this one doesn't disappoint. The remix has Justin Beiber's "Runaway Love" pitted against Wu Tang's "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta Fuck Wit" in a fight to prepubescent death. Wu Tang wins but this is one hell of a juxtaposition--I'm with ya Yeezy.

Hip hop's most hated MC is back with the lead single for his upcoming fifth LP, Good Ass Job, which is expected to depart from 808s and Heartbreak and instead pick up where Graduation left off. Continuing a tradition of bringing criminally slept-on, revolutionary music acts to the mainstream (Can on "Drunk and Hot Girls" and Alan Parsons on "Heartless," just to name a few), "Power" samples "21st Century Schizoid Man," a track from King Crimson's magnum opus, In the Court of the Crimson King. In it, Kanye essentially constructs a massive musical middle finger to the world; the dude's not changing. Don't expect any apologies on this album. Nonetheless, whether or not you despise the man for his antics and arrogance, you have to admit that he's talented, and the bottom line is that 'Ye is going to go platinum regardless of his douchebaggery—Mr. West has proven time and again that he belongs in the uppermost echelon of the rap game.

Expanding on one of the highlights from the mashup-revolutionizing Feed the Animals by Girl Talk, this takes the "No Diggity"/"Flashing Lights" marriage from "Still Here" and fashions it into a full song. Although it does lose some of its initial wow factor because it's essentially an continuation of an existing idea, the track nevertheless bumps. It makes you wonder what 808s and Heartbreak might've been like without AutoTune and instead with the sensual Blackstreet or an otherwise talented group of R&B singers...
